Archaeological Excavation Tours at Pockoy Island Shell Ring 1
Botany Bay Wildlife Management Area
Multiple guided tours of the site are offered throughout the field season from Monday, May 6 through Friday, May 24, 2019. Please check in for your tour at the archaeology field station upon arrival at the site. Each tour will be approximately 45-minutes. Walk-up tour participants who did not pre-register are welcome, but please check in at the archaeology field station before joining a tour group.

Once you complete the guided tour, you can join the SCDNR archaeology team as an archaeology volunteer and help sift for artifacts. Volunteers of all ages are welcome! Volunteer opportunities at Pockoy Island Shell Ring 1 Archaeological Excavation Site
Botany Bay Wildlife Management Area
Volunteers of all ages are welcome to help sift for artifacts! Please check in at the archaeology field station upon arrival at the site.

Participants should dress for the weather and be prepared for the 1.5-mile walk on uneven terrain from the Botany Bay Plantation beach parking lot to the site and back again. Participants should bring water, lunch and snacks. Close-toed shoes, a hat, sunscreen and bug spray are strongly recommended. While pairs of work gloves are available for volunteers of all ages to borrow at the site, please feel free to bring your own work gloves.
