Edisto Chamber of Commerce Media Kit: Testimonials
Liz Mitchell, from “Beach Bytes: Slow Down on Edisto Island” “Edisto Beach is only two miles long, where the usual crowds of summer vacationers are still a rarity. It’s a popular family destination for South Carolinians who plan reunions, weddings, girlfriend getaways, or fishing trips. Many visitors who discover Edisto decide to stay to escape a busy city or cold climate, and a few native South Carolinians remain to open up family businesses.”

6/1/2010 Charleston Magazine: Edisto Beach, Easy Does It
On the dock behind the Edisto Marina, guitarist Jeff Houts played and sang folky-rock songs while a red-headed toddler danced and a crowd of about 20 people stood near a couple of oyster roast tables. It was a Saturday night an hour or two before sunset at Edisto Beach, and dockmaster Dan Warren was in charge of steaming the oysters. (In the summer, they change up the Saturday night dinners: they might grill fish, have a shrimp boil, or serve up Frogmore stew. ) He chatted with guests between batches. Turns out, he used to live on Folly Beach and says Edisto is “a lot more laid-back, without so much traffic and the bar scene. It’s quieter on this island, much quieter.” Read More |

4/25/1993 Washington Post: Carolina Coasting and South Carolina's Mystical Edisto Island
Traveling the 40 miles from Charleston, S.C., to Edisto Island can be haunting, almost as haunting as the sea island itself. The city and its suburbs screech to a halt, as if a line is drawn beyond which the 20th century cannot pass, and the four-lane highway narrows into two. Free from modernity, the back road digs its way eerily to the Atlantic Ocean, pushing past stagnant ponds and foggy swamps and past petrified shacks that cluster like headstones around forlorn, forgotten intersections. Near Edisto the highway becomes a thin tether with flat pans of marsh to either side. Suddenly the North Edisto River appears, a blue-blooded vein hugging the lowland. The island is only a drawbridge rumble away. Read More |
