2/19/2012 Tips on Trips...nice article on Edisto events

NAPS)—One surefire way to make the most of the season is to
extend it by traveling south. From a quiet corner of the South Carolina
Lowcountry, the Edisto Island and Edisto Beach communities
offer longer days, warmer weather, buds in bloom and a
variety of events to celebrate. Set in a rare, sparsely developed
corner of the world, Edisto, with its vast green spaces, ancient
live oaks, wide open marsh views and quiet, pristine beach, offers a
coastal island experience uncommon among Eastern seaboard
communities.

Visitors and residents arrive under a live oak canopy via Highway 174, recently designated by

the U.S. Department of Transportation as a National Scenic
Byway. The destination offers slower pace of life, coupled with a
broad range of year-round recreational activities, all set in the
Lowcountry of South Carolina. It’s said that this coastal island destination
offers its own “state of mind—any time, any season.”
In the next few months, activities will include the Edisto Day
Bazaar, the Edisto Art Guild Spring Show and Sale, and a theater
production by the Edisto Art Guild Players.
During the last weekend in March, the Edisto Art Guild Players
will perform “Bull in a China Shop.” Sponsored by the Edisto
Art Guild, the production will run March 25 to 28 at the Edisto
Beach Civic Center on Edisto Island.  Shortly following, Easter weekend
will bring local and regional artists to the area for the Edisto
Art Guild’s Spring Show and Sale. Scheduled for Saturday, April 3,
from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Edistonian General Store on Edisto Island.
Early the next morning, the Easter Sunrise service will offer
an inspiring way to celebrate the holiday while watching the sun
rise over the Atlantic Ocean. Sponsored by the Edisto Ministerial
Alliance, the service will be held on Sunday, April 4, at 6:45
a.m. in the Pavilion parking lot, on Edisto Beach.
The following month, the streets come alive with the Edisto
Day Bazaar, an annual arts and crafts festival sponsored by the
King’s Daughters. Fun for all ages, the Bazaar will be held on
Saturday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lions Club on Edisto
Beach.
