12/15/2009 The Press and Standard: Edisto Beach residents fight weather, welcome Christmas

Even four-year-old Claire Green had a smile on her face as she prepared to march with Edisto Island Art Guild, which won second place in the Best Homemade Float category.

Best in Show was won by the Wyndham Tram Mystery Tree, with the Beach Combers placing second. They were in the Cars / Golf Carts category.

Tied for first place in the homemade float category were the Town of Edisto Beach Turtle Patrol and the Edisto Belles. The School / Church category was won by Edisto Beach Primary School and its parade banner.

Honors for the best professionaly constructed float went to the Sea Cow eatery, with the Piggly Wiggly second in the parade.

The worst seasonal weather of the season failed to deter contestants and spectators alike, with many of the latter parked along the parade route in positions to view the parade without leaving their vehicles.

Blustery winds and rain arrived on a warm front from the Gulf of Mexico right on time for the parade, but all concerned showed the characteristic disregard of those who live close to the sea.
