Is Edisto Beach pet-friendly?

Dogs are welcome on Edisto even on the beach. But please mind the rules. Dogs must be on a leash on the sandy beach from May 1 through October 31 and all year round in the Edisto Beach State Park.  Otherwise, dogs must be within the verbal command of the owner, on a leash, or in a secure area within the Town of Edisto Beach limits.  For everyone’s convenience, the town has installed receptacles for pet waste in higher-traffic areas.

Are special beach wheelchairs available?

Yes, the fire station next to Town Hall has 17 beach wheelchairs: 14 adult’s, 2 children’s, and 1 sports wheelchair. The wheelchairs are first come, first serve. Persons borrowing the chair must be able to load it into and out of their vehicle without the Fire Department’s assistance. There is no charge for the use of beach wheelchairs but donations are appreciated so that the wheelchairs can be maintained. A liability waiver is required.

Where can I access FREE Wifi?

The Edisto Island Bookstore and the Colleton County Library both offer free WiFi.

Is there a printer I can use on the island?

Both the Edisto Island Bookstore along with the Colleton County Library – Edisto Branch (which is located off of Hwy 174 at 71 Station Court) have printers available.  Library card holders can borrow books, DVDs, and audiobooks plus take advantage of free printing services and WiFi. Non-residents can purchase a library card for their stay.

Is there a Notary Public on Edisto Island?

Is there a doctor or urgent care clinic on the island?

There is a Liberty Doctor’s office located on Edisto Beach. Dr. Rakes-Stephens is open Monday – Wednesday. A number of additional urgent care facilities and hospitals are within an hour’s drive in Charleston, SC.

Where is the nearest pharmacy?

Edisto Beach Food Lion has a good selection of over-the-counter items. Additionally, there are pharmacies located in both Hollywood and Ravenel, SC which are both about 30 minutes from Edisto.

Can I bring my golf cart to Edisto Beach?

All golf carts must be registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Town of Edisto Beach and only Edisto Beach property owners (and long term renters) will be issued golf cart decals. The Town of Edisto Beach provides information on how to obtain your registration decal as well as the rules of the road. If you are not a property owner, there are several options for renting a golf cart to enjoy on your trip. Before hopping on your golf cart make sure you read all of the rules and regulations.

Is there a place to charge my Electric Car on Edisto?

There are currently three (3) charging stations on the island, most with charging fees:

  1. Wyndham Ocean Ridge Marsh Point located at 3518 Myrtle Street. The charging stations are between the first two buildings.
  2. Wyndham Ocean Ridge Sea Oaks is available for Wyndham guests. It is located through the guard gate to the left, first driveway on the right.
  3. Edisto Beach State Park located at 8377 State Cabin Rd.

When is garbage collected and is there a specific place to take it at other times?

Within the town limits of Edisto Beach, household garbage is picked up every Monday and Friday. Yard Debris/Bulk Trash is picked up every Tuesday. DO NOT place bags outside of the containers. Overflow garbage and recycling can be taken to the convenience station off Holmes Street. The convenience station is open on Tuesdays from 8:30 am-1:30 pm, Thursdays from 1:30 pm-6:00 pm, and Saturdays from 8:30 am-5:30 pm. However, the walk-in gate is open 24/7. Additionally, there is another convenience station on the island. The Edisto Island Convenience Center is located at 2844 Highway 174.

Is there recycling on Edisto Beach?

There is not household pick-up for recyclables. Recyclables can be brought to the convenience station during operating hours (above). Aluminum can be placed in the trailer outside the convenience station 24 hours a day. Visit the Town of Edisto Beach for information on recycling.

Is there a place to donate old clothing, furniture, and other items?

 The Methodist Church operates a used clothing store called Nancie’s Clothes Closet. Donations are always accepted and can be dropped off every Monday while the store is open. The Clothes Closet provides a chance to donate used clothing and household items like sheets, towels, blankets, and old furniture without having to drive all the way to Charleston. Nancie’s Clothes Closet is open every Monday from 10 am-1 pm and 3 pm-6 pm. For more information contact the church office at 843-869-3456.

Is there a place to play Pickleball?

Yes, Edisto currently has two Pickleball courts and is in the process of doubling the number of courts and improving the currents ones. The Pickleball courts are located near the intersection of Lee Street and Neptune Street. Stop by the Town Hall on your way there to borrow one of their portable Pickleball nets for free!

When is Botany Bay closed?

Botany Bay is closed every Tuesday. In the Fall and Winter, they close frequently for scheduled hunts.

When visiting our small town please be respectful of our area and our locals. The number of restaurants on our small island is limited and often staff is even more limited. During the busy season, you could experience long waits at the restaurants. Please be patient, as everybody is doing the best they can. But hey, you’re not in a hurry since you’re on vacation, right?! And we all know everything good is worth waiting for!
