Hikes, Bikes, and Road Races: Get Your Fitness on While Exploring Edisto

There has never been a better time to get out and enjoy the great outdoors than now. Luckily, Edisto Beach has long been a spectacular place to enjoy all of nature’s beauty while enjoying outdoor activities to keep your heart (and mind!) healthy. You can hike, bike, or run on Edisto, whether you’re a seasoned fitness expert or just a fan of the leisurely stroll. We have walking paths, hiking, biking, kayaking, and paddle boarding options. Edisto is sure to offer something that matches exactly what you had in mind.

Explore Edisto Beach Via Bike Paths

Edisto Beach is laden with opportunities to get out and stretch your legs or peddle along the many bike paths and hiking trails just minutes away from your vacation rental. The Town of Edisto Beach offers over 4 ½ miles of paved bike paths that meander throughout the area, with relaxing views of the beach, the marsh, and naturally wooded areas. If you are looking for a more purposeful route, the bike path also takes you past our boutique shops, restaurants, and grocery store.

Enjoy Nature While Hiking Edisto Beach State Park & Botany Bay Plantation

If you would like to get off the pavement and onto more natural paths, look no further than Edisto Beach State Park and Botany Bay Plantation. Both areas offer miles of opportunities to hike or bike in a natural, undeveloped maritime forest. The State Park is located just .7 miles from the beach and contains 1,255 acres with six different trails you can explore, all leading you through nature to some beautiful views of the water.

Botany Bay is slightly farther than the State Park at 3.8 miles from the beach, but still an easy drive out. Botany Bay contains over 3,300 acres of preserved land and is one of the largest remaining relatively undeveloped wetland ecosystems along the Atlantic Coast. Botany Bay offers paths for hiking and biking that lead out to its undeveloped beach. You can bring your horses to ride the roads. And for a rainy day or those with mobility impairment, there is a self-guided driving tour you can take.

Water & Wellness Combined

If spending time on the water is more your pace, look no further than Edisto Watersports & Tackle or Island Bikes & Outfitters, who both offer kayak, canoe, and stand up paddle board rentals. Once you hit the water you have so many opportunities to view wildlife up close in Edisto’s pristine creeks and rivers.

12th Annual Edisto Beach Road Race

If you plan on visiting Edisto this Fall (or if you are looking for an excuse to visit), plan on joining us for the Edisto Beach Road Race. Open to the entire family, there is a 5K run combined with a 1M walk on Saturday, November 18th. It takes you through the roads of Wyndham’s golf course resort and around the beach. Enjoy the views of Edisto’s Big Bay Creek and the Plantation Golf Course while feeling a cool fall breeze on your face. Access more details and register here.

Edisto Triathlon

For the trained athlete, Edisto hosted its second EVER triathlon last October. The Edisto Island Triathlon is a half iron distance triathlon event held entirely on Edisto Island and Edisto Beach, South Carolina. This soon to be world famous race features a “with the tide” ocean swim and two loop bike that is flat and fast. The bike path trails through the Island under live oak canopies and the run course takes you along the beach’s interior roads with views the golf course and Big Bay Creek. This year’s triathlon will be held on November 11th, 2023.

From the fitness guru to the leisure stroller, there is something for everyone, all year round. Treat your mind, body, and soul to what our beautiful natural surroundings have to offer. Breathe in Edisto and exhale your stresses – you won’t regret it!
