Relocation Guide

Welcome to Edisto! Here are some useful things to know as you settle in and make Edisto Beach your home.  

It is important to note that with respect to public services, the Town of Edisto Beach and some residential areas adjacent to the beach are in Colleton County.  The remainder of the island is in Charleston County. Depending on your location, you will want to contact the Town of Edisto Beach, Colleton County or Charleston County for details on available public services.

Sewer/Septic – A few streets in the Town of Edisto Beach have sewer connections, but most lots utilize septic systems.  

Water – The Town of Edisto Beach provides water to residents of the beach. On the remainder of the Island, water comes from individual private wells in most areas. 

Recycling –  A recycling center is open 24/7 on Holmes Street near the Town of Edisto Beach town hall.  An additional recycling center is located at 2844 Hwy 174 in Charleston County. Check with Charleston County for updated hours.

Garbage –  The Town of Edisto Beach has weekly garbage collection.  For more information visit The Town website.

Power Company – All electric power on Edisto is provided by Dominion Energy.

Cable, Internet and Landline Telephone –  AT&T/DirectTV, Comcast and Dish Network are the major service providers on the Island. You will need to check with the providers to determine who offers service at your lot or location.  

Schools – Jane Edwards School serves local children from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade. Beyond sixth grade, students travel to high schools in Walterboro, Hollywood, or Charleston, depending on their county of residence.

Healthcare – Edisto is served by a doctor’s office, Dr. Rebecca Borders.   There are several pharmacies near Highway 17 in either Hollywood or Ravenel (approximately 20 miles).  The closest options for hospitals and other medical services are in Charleston or Walterboro.  There is a dental practice on the island, called Edisto Family Dental.
