Under normal circumstances, the Martha Whetstone Award is presented at the Chamber’s Annual Dinner for the many members who attend to recognize and congratulate the award winner. 2020 has been anything but normal. With the postponement of the annual dinner, the Chamber presented this well deserved honor at the August 10th Board Meeting. This year’s recipient of the Martha Whetstone Service Award is Robert “Bob” Hare.

Last week, my aunt FaceTimed me while golfing to tell me…. “I’m walking by your cottage! I thought I’d video you and show you!”
Today we officially closed on Firefly Cottage, our own little piece of paradise on Edisto Island. It’s the cutest, cozy yet spacious little cottage surrounded by giant live oak trees draped in Spanish moss with hole 5 (or is it 6??) of the Plantation Golf Course just beyond the back yard.
It’s a rental as well, and if you yearn for the slow, quiet island life without commercial shops and hotels, an island your kids can bike around safely… we’d love to host you there! https://www.vacasa.com/unit/85322. But don’t tell too many people about it. 🤣. We want it to stay forever quaint and quiet!
Right now it’s not super “pretty” inside, but I have plans to give it some vintage coastal cottage vibes over the next year or so (I’m trying to figure out how to accomplish all the projects I’d like to do there in just week long spurts but also without cutting into rental income 😝🤣).
I can’t wait to make so many more memories here- we’ve loved Edisto since we first visited my aunt and uncle here years ago (they started with a rental here and now retired on the island and we can both see the same big tree on the golf course from both our back porches). I always want to tell everyone about this special little beach town but also don’t want anyone to know about it hahah!
The loft bedroom at fireflycottageedisto. When my mom and I left in January, we hadn’t been able to do much to it except add the larger dresser, paint the 2 yellow walls and swap out the fishy bedding (which I hesitated on ditching bc it’s kiddy-cute but… gah! I did keep the quilts to use as picnic blankets at the beach though!). I really had no vision for this room (well, I had lots of vision but wasn’t pulling it together very well). Anyhow, it started to fall into place over spring break and I’m pretty happy with it. Eventually I need a rug, and will do some different photos (fun fact: I actually framed palm tree napkins I found in the pantry bc I didn’t have anything to put in these frames hahaha!) and maybe some extra decor up there by the tv? And I’d love to strip that blue dresser and rocker back to natural wood!
